Recently, completed the construction of the downstream end wall of the air-cushion pressure regulating chamber of the San Gaban III Hydropower Plant in Peru, marking the completion of the main project of the first air cushion pressure regulating chamber in South America that lasted for 4 years. The realization of this critical milestone has promoted the project to take a solid step towards the power generation as scheduled.

The air-cushion pressure regulating chamber is located on the left side of the diversion tunnel of the San Gaban III HPP, with a length of 92,4 meters, a span of 13,8 meters and a height of 18,5 meters. As the diversion line passes through several long faults, and the geological conditions near the pressure regulating chamber are complex, the structure of each layer needs to be closely integrated to fulfill the high construction quality requirements. During the construction of the project, the on-site representative personnel actively fed back the on-site problems and the designers in China replied quickly, and for the major and difficult problems the team organized design disclosure consultation meetings in a timely manner, by which we built a harmonious four-party communication platform. Through rigorous demonstration, the designer selected the layout location of the air cushion pressure regulating chamber and delineated a reasonable structural construction process, assisted the site to solve the difficulties encountered in the construction process according to local conditions, and efficiently ensured the construction progress and quality.

The San Gaban III Hydropower Station in Peru utilizes a low dam with a long water diversion to concentrate the water head for power generation. The water diversion power generation system is arranged within the mountain body on the right bank. The rated head is 630.71 meters, and it is equipped with 2 Pelton-type turbine generators, with a total installed capacity of 209.3 megawatts. In April 2020, the employer signed a contract with PowerChina Chengdu for the design and service of the air cushion Pressure Regulating chamber of the San Gaban III HPP. This contract marks the company's first practice of leveraging its core technology in the design and engineering of air-cushion pressure regulating chambers to participate the high-end South American market. It is also a significant indication of the popularization and application of the company's proprietary technology from domestic to overseas.
