On July 2nd 2024, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Kazakhstan and published a signed article entitled "Staying True to Our Shared Commitment and Opening a New Chapter in China-Kazakhstan Relations" in the Kazakhstanskaya Pravda newspaper and Kazinform International News Agency. The article pointed out: "Major strategic projects including the Zhanatas wind power project, Turgusun hydropower station, and the modernization of Shymkent Oil Refinery have been completed and commissioned. China-Kazakhstan crude oil and natural gas pipelines are operating in a safe and stable manner. The ‘green lanes’ for fast customs clearance of agricultural products are available at all border ports between the two countries, which makes green agri-products of high quality from Kazakhstan easily accessible for Chinese consumers. " On September 13th, 2022, President Xi Jinping pointed out in a signed article Promoting China-Kazakhstan Relations to Achieve Greater Development in the Future: "The completed large-scale strategic projects such as the Zhanatas wind power project, the JAC automobile production line, and the modernization of the Shymkent refinery have provided a strong boost to Kazakhstan's economic and social development and truly benefited the people of the two countries." The Zhanatas wind power project mentioned by President Xi Jinping in both signed articles is built in the EPC mode by POWERCHINA Chengdu Engineering Co., Ltd. and is located in Zanatas City, Saresu District, Zhambyl Oblast, southern Kazakhstan, which is currently the largest wind power project in Central Asia, which was included in the list of key projects for production capacity cooperation between China and Kazakhstan in February 2018 and completed and put into operation in June 2021. The project is the first 100-megawatt wind power project in Kazakhstan, one of the 51 key projects of China-Kazakhstan cooperation, and the first new energy project undertaken by POWERCHINA Chengdu in Central Asia, marking a major breakthrough in the construction of Central Asia region and opening up new space for China-Kazakhstan cooperation in the field of new energy. The project was connected to the grid at full capacity in June 2021 and completed after three years of construction, providing 690 million kWh of clean electricity and saving 219,000 tons of standard coal per year. It is not only of great significance for helping Kazakhstan to further improve its energy structure, alleviate the single power production structure and the imbalance supply and demand between the north and the south, but also helps drive local employment and gives new vitality to the former mining city of Zhanatas. Starting from the construction of the Mayna Hydropower Station in Kazakhstan, POWERCHINA Chengdu acquired and controlled the HAZHYDRO, LLP and established the Central Asia Branch for the localized development, and provided all-round services to Kazakhstan construction in the projects such as Zanatas, Shelek, Khromtau to empower local economic and social development and contribute to high-quality "Belt and Road" construction. | |||
