On April 9th, the Sanjen Khola Hydropower Station in Nepal, which was surveyed and designed by PowerChina Chengdu, was put into operation for power generation. The ceremony was held in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, and was attended by Nepal's Minister of Energy Deepak Khadka, General Manager of Nepal Electricity Authority Kul Man Ghising, Chairman of Nepal Investment Bank Gyawali, and Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal Wang Xin.

The power station completed the breakthrough of the water diversion system in the first half of 2024, and completed the water storage and the water diversion system of the kilometer-level head in the second half of 2024. Today, the successful grid-connected power generation marks that PowerChina Chengdu has overcome difficulties in the field of kilometer-level water head and established its technological leading position in the ultra-high head market. At present, all three units of the power station have good parameters and stable operation. The successful commissioning of the power station not only reflects the good cooperation between China and Nepal in the field of infrastructure, but also lays the foundation for in-depth cooperation in the energy field in the future, and sets a model for the smooth implementation of the "Belt and Road" energy projects.

As the construction of the power station adopts Chinese standards and Chinese technology, looking back on the construction process, the design team of PowerChina Chengdu has "broken through" the key issues through technological innovation - during the bidding period of the project, the design team proposed a design scheme to ensure the normal operation of the kilometer-level head impact unit by canceling the pressure regulating well and optimizing the parameters, and won among many bidders; Due to the high geological sediment content and narrow river channel of the project, the design adopts the scheme of underground sediment tank, which successfully solves the sediment problem; Because of the difficulty of anti-seepage treatment due to the collapse accumulation foundation of the headworks of the project, the anti-seepage treatment method of the collapse accumulation body was designed and proposed, which successfully dealt with the on-site problems and ensured the permeability stability of the headworks.

The highlight of the HPP is the 4,692-meter-long water diversion system, which includes tunnels, sedimentation tanks and pressure pipes. In the face of complex geological conditions, the design team of PowerChina Chengdu used the advanced geological prediction technology to avoid undesirable geological sections, successfully solved the problems of water inrush and collapse that frequently occurred during construction, and built a benchmark hydropower station in Nepal with high standards.

The HPP is located in the Chirimi River Basin in north-central Nepal and is a diversion hydropower station with a rated head of 952 meters, a maximum head of 1,015 meters, a normal storage level of 3,391 meters, a total reservoir capacity of 5,600 cubic meters, a design reference flow of 9.3 cubic meters per second, an installed capacity of 78 megawatts, and an average annual power generation of 412.7 million kilowatt hours. The construction of the power station has played a positive and important role in stimulating local social and economic development and improving the living standards of local people.
